Kavery Kaul is a filmmaker, a storyteller and cultural commentator whose work boundlessly straddles different worlds. The founder of riverfilms, her credits include THE BENGALI, filmed in India and the US; CUBAN CANVAS, featuring internationally renowned visual artists in Havana; ONE HAND DON’T CLAP, a music film shot in New York and Trinidad & Tobago recently digitally restored by the Academy Film Archive and the Women’s Film Preservation Fund; and FIRST LOOK, narrated by Harry Belafonte. Her films have been featured at Telluride, DOC NYC, FESPACO, India, London, Sydney and other major festivals; at the Kennedy Center (DC), National Museum of Women in the Arts (DC), Jameel Arts Centre (Dubai), and the Museum of Modern Art PS1 (NY).

An India-born American, Kavery is the recipient of a Fulbright Senior Fellowship, an Imagen Award nomination, and a NYC Proclamation of Excellence.

She has delivered keynote addresses at the National Association of Independent Schools People of Color Conference and the Asian-American Educator’s Alliance Conference. She has been a guest speaker at universities including Harvard and Rutgers, schools including Collegiate (NY) and Westridge (CA), cultural institutions including Girls Inc., Whitney Museum (NY), Allen Project Interfaith Conference (NJ), and Aspen Institute India.

Her highly acclaimed TedxTalk, ((goo.gl/dPoCvZ) speaks to the power of storytelling to connect people across divides. As arts speaker on the occasion of Fulbright’s 75th anniversary, she reminded listeners that “Stories Matter”.
