MONSTER IN A DRESS is a semi-autobiographical story about gender and identity. Artist and author Annie Weatherwax was a girl who didn’t act like one and the title, MONSTER IN A DRESS, expresses how Annie felt every time Annie was made to wear one. The narrative is build around a story of an immigrant family from Lebanon and how one powerful matriarch kept her clan together, forged a way forward, and along the way saved the life of a vulnerable grandchild . It examines the trials and tribulations of intergenerational trauma and healing when a long buried family secret is brought to light.
